Lock-snapping burglary is a prolific method of entry that criminals have used for over a decade.

After some research, this method originated in the West Yorkshire area of the UK sometime in 2007 and quickly spread throughout the country.

The method targets inadequate euro locks and UPVC handles on composite, UPVC, patio, and French doors.

The unfortunate reality is that these types of inadequate locks and handles are standard for the majority of doors installed every day by members of the public, who are sadly still unaware of how vulnerable they are to burglary.

Quiet and quick

Year-on-year statistics and our own experience as former Police officers have shown that burglars commit this method of entry at all times of the day, whether persons are at home or not, because it is relatively quiet and scarily quick to commit.

On many occasions, the offence is committed while people are asleep in bed. They awake to discover the burglary but unfortunately hear nothing.

What are inadequate euro locks?
